Are death records public?

I have a friend I know through social media who was very ill. I have her address in Ontario but don’t want to write a letter to her parents asking if I can find the info through public records and if they are public and she’s not listed then I can be a source of support that her parents wouldn’t likely know to call. I’m in the US where death records are public record. Her address is in Sarnia Ontario. Thank you so much.
