Marriage to an Armenian Citizen

Every country has its own laws that apply to its citizens marrying a person from a different country. Getting married to an Armenian citizen with the goal of eventually bringing them to Canada to live is a process with many steps.

If you want to bring your Armenian spouse or partner to live in Canada, you must then file a sponsorship application for them to become a permanent resident. If they would like to visit you in Canada while their application is in process, they must also apply for a visitor visa. Armenian Marriage Basic Requirements

Canadians traveling to Armenia to get married and be with your spouses are required by Armenian authorities to have an original passport and then a visa can be issued.

The requirements are:

• Passport valid for 6 months beyond the stay and at least one blank page
• Original application form and a copy filled and signed
• Color passport photo
• Other requirements are a temporary residence card if the stay will be longer than 120 days which can be obtained at the visa department of the police service in Armenia

Armenian visas can be issued as a single entry or multiple entries depending on the purpose of visit. Single visas are issued for up to 120 days while multiple visas go for 6 months. Validity of the visa is at the discretion of the Armenian authorities.

Armenian Marriage Ceremony

The marriage ceremony to an Armenian citizen can legally take place in Armenia, Canada, or any other country as long as both parties have the necessary visas to enter this country legally. This marriage can then be recognized when applying for a permanent residence or a visitor visa for your Armenian spouse. To learn more about cereomny customs, see below.

Family Members

If your Armenian spouse has dependent children, this does not affect the Armenian Marriage document application.

If you have dependent children, they have no effect on the application to marry an Armenian citizen.

How long is the Armenian Marriage document valid?

The document is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. If you do not marry your Armenian fiancé within 6 months of the issuance of the Armenian Marriage document, you must apply again with new supporting documents.
