Canadian Citizenship Card
Toll Free: 1-866-760-2623
PLEASE NOTE: We would like to inform you that as of February 1, 2012 Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has stopped issuing citizenship certificates in the familiar form of a photo ID card. Instead, certificates are now issued on a double-sided, letter sized paper, with the Coat of Arms of Canada on the front, and a barcode on the back.

Both the old citizenship cards and the new citizenship certificates are valid for use as proof of citizenship and you can use either to apply for Canadian passports and your other benefits of Canadian Citizenship. Though the form of the citizenship certificate has changed, the application process has not changed. You can still apply the same way as before and you do not need to worry if you submitted an application before the change but have not yet received your certificate."

Permanent adult residents wishing to obtain a Canadian Citizenship Card must fill out the Application for Canadian Citizenship for Adults (CIT 0002). Supporting documentation may also be required for some Canadian citizenship card applicants. A test will be necessary for Canadian citizenship card applicants who are aged between the ages of 18 and 54 to test their knowledge of Canada.

Please note if you are 55 or older, you do not have to write the test. Furthermore, applicants who have a criminal past, or are facing criminal charges may not be eligible for Canadian citizenship card.

What is a Citizenship Card?

A Canadian Citizenship card, also known as a Citizenship Certificate, is an official document that can be used as proof of Canadian citizenship. It can be used as a form of personal identification, as it displays your picture, signature, date of birth, height and gender.

How Can I Replace My Lost Citizenship Card?

If you have lost, or have had your Citizenship card stolen or destroyed, and are residing in Canada, to apply for a Citizenship card you must fill out the Application for a Citizenship Card from Inside Canada (CIT 0001). Additionally, supporting documentation must also be included in your application. A fee must also be paid before an application can be submitted. This fee can be paid either online, or at a financial institution. Please be sure to obtain a receipt of the payment, and include it in your Canadian citizenship application package.
